Wild Orphans
2
Gerry started conceiving
the Wild Orphans follow up in 2000
as the first project was coming to a natural
conclusion.  Natumi, the little female that
graces the front and back covers of the first
book, would be "coming of age" and it seemed
like a logical and unique opportunity to create
a story ten years later in her and the other
orphan's lives as well as challenge faced by the
dedicated people of the David Sheldrick
Wildlife Trust.

The goal of Wild Orphans Project 2 is to combine a very personal approach to the story,
as I feel I did in the original project, with the plethora of new technologies to enable the
story to be told more spontaneously, more immediately and more interactively.  This
website is the first step in that approach.  Over the coming months I will not only post
more of the original projects photography than we were capable of showing you in a
single book, but also many wonderful moments that were captured on video.
Throughout the second half of Project One I carried a
Canon GL1 digital video camera, with a superwide
angle lens - the results were video and audio that
equals much of what has only been seen to-date in the
Wild Orphans book still photographs (
more about the
photography).  In Project 2, with the emergence of
web, blogging, Twitters and other applications I hope
to bring many of those sights and sounds and my
impressions to you as they are created.
